The Marne & Elk Horn Telephone Co. was officially organized in 1903. The first meeting was held at the Clay Center School where the first officers were elected. The first line was strung from Marne to Elk Horn--hence the name became the Marne & Elk Horn Telephone Co. Kimballton received service in 1904 and Brayton was added next. Today the Independent Telephone Company has all digital telephone service in the four exchanges and also serves cable TV to these four towns and to Exira, IA.  We offer Internet service in our four exchanges as well as Atlantic, Audubon, and Exira.
